Ibe government was endeavoring to get the revenue from those best able to contribute. This was shown by the excess of direct over indirect taxation. In 1913-14 indirect taxation produced £09,000,000 and in the present Budget, £1C2,000,000W In 19T3-U direct taxation produced £93,000.000 and it now amounted to £40(5.000,000.
