The annual meeting of the MaLaura Athletic Society was held in tile Coronation Hall last night and was attended- by 20 members. The president (Mr J. L. Mitchell) presided. The annual report was as follows; la presenting the report, the committee wishes to state that the society, through lack of entries and on account of various other attractions, postponed the sports from Boxing Day until Easter Monday. The bank balance at that time was £29 Is 9d. Expenses, donation to the late secretary, and sundry accounts reduced the balance to £l7 ts lid on March 31. As will be seen by the. balance sheet, the society has now in the bank a balance of £26 13s Sd, which must, be considered' satisfactory' in view of the above-mentioned circumstances, and we think the dub has been fortunate in selecting Easter Monday as .sports day. The society ,i« indebted- to Mr Ambrose for acting as hamlicapper, and Mr Milne for judging the dancing, and extends to them its thanks. Tile society also wishes to express to Mr E. Ashby,. Mr W, Thorn, and: Mr A. Reid, its gratitude to these donors, who each presented 1 a gold medal for dancing. The various committees all worked hard, and the day’s sport went off without a hitch and concluded in .good time to allow competitors to return by the evening train. The evening’s entertainment was greeted by a large attendance, showing that the members are desirous of seeing the club proper. - The balance-sheet showed the following receipts: Bank balance £39 16s 3d, gate takings £52 15s Lid, entry money £27 75,. members’ tickets £2l ss, concert £l3 3s 9d, programmes *£s 4s 6d, sundries £lO 15s lid, total, £l7O Ss 4d. The principal] item of expenditure was prize money, which amounted to £B7 12s 6d, other items totalling £56 2s 6d, leaving a credit balance of £26 13s Sd.

The chairman, in moving the adoption: of the report and balance-sheet, complimented the society on the success achieved. The motion was seconded by Mr F. AV. Brown and carried. A general discussion ensued on the advisableness of holding the sports this year, and it was eventually decided, on the motion of Messrs T. Carroll and J. L. Smith, not to hold the sports. It was resolved, ‘‘The the meeting adjourn for 12 mouths.” On the motion of Air 11. Pryde, secondid: by Air J. Heslin, it was decided', “That a committee, consisting of the chairman and secretary” and Mr T. G. Smith, be appointed' to wait on the Alavor and request him to call a public meeting to discuss the matter of holding .a “ patriotic demonstration and sports meeting on a date to be arranged . Votes of thanks were accorded!' the chairman and secretary, being canned by acclamation.

FEJI'NDALB PUBLIC PICNIC. Although the weather on January' 22 was very wet. this did not prevent a large gathering of residents from assembling for the purpose of holding the annual picnic, which proved to be a great success (writes a Ferndale correspondent). In the evening an enjoyable dance was hold 1 in the school, aboxit 20 couples taking part.
