Mr J. H. Gunsou has agreed to accept nomination for the Auckland Mayoralty (states a Press Association telegram). The death is announced of Mr A. Todd, of Invercargill, aged 71 years. Deceased, who was a prominent member of the Oddfellows’ Friendly Society, arrived l in New Zealand in 1862. He joined the Oddfellows’ Order in 1860, and in 191.0 celebrated his jubilee when the Southland District Lodge presented him with a purse of sovereigns. Mr Todd was a member of the railway service for many years. He is survived by his widow and four daughters. The death is announced' of one of Bluff’s oldest residents, Mr • Thos. Cross, at the age of 72 years. Mr Cross arrived at the Bluff when in Lis teens and settled at Port Adventure (Stewart Island) where he married (states the ‘Southland Times’). For many years he ran the small coasting schooner Flying Scud, of 23 tons nett register. It was this craft which rescued the survivors of the Gration wrecked at the Auckland Islands in 1864. The survivors had spent almost two years on those desolate shores before succor reached them. Deceased is survived by seven sons and a married daughter.
