ERNEST DRAKE CONCERT,

Though, the weather last night was cold and cheerless enough to keep the most ardent devotees of music at their firesides, the announcement that Mr Ernest Drake (the noted Dunedin tenor), agisted by Aliss M. a belie E:(piihuit, whose very lino contralto voice has won her a high regard on the concert platform right throughout the Dominion, and other artists of note, was sufficient, inducement to attract an audience of amide proportions to the Princes "1 hcatre. Though Mr Drake had previously appeared before a local audience ho was on th.it occasion suffering from a severe cold, but last night his line voice was heard to the best advantage. This remarkable voting artist is possessed of a voice of unusual sweetness and volume, his notes being clear and pure and of woiulcrlul range, while his enunciation appeared perfect. His most popular renderings were his concluding number, "An livening Song'' (Bhiementhal.l and its encore number, " 1 Hear You Calling Me," "Bonny Mary of Argyle," winch was pung as an encore, to "Lend Me i our Aid'' (from "The Queen of Shoba," (foiinod), and for which his reappearance was demanded; and Newton's duet "In the Springtime,'' with -Mi.-.s Es<|iiil;,nt.
