KEEPING THEM AMUSED.
A'fc many branches of the New York 1 U'Wic Library, the organisation of the children s department includes' a, successful scheme for the telling- of stories •to- young children «ti- soecified hours. The task is u.nflertakeii by assistant librarians who are found to have special gifts for it. For the youngest- children picture-story book hours are provided. At two of the branches the stories are told in the German and Bohemian ..languages. According to the „receiiit report- of the Library, thousands of children—especially in the less fashionable districts of the ci'ty— have been kept, safely amused in this way 'while their parents were otherwise engaged. . ,
