Italian excavators at Rhodes Island (off the south-west coast of Asia Minor) secured 70 cases of ancient relics of great importance, which have been shipped l to Rome. Soldiers are guarding the excavations. The tomb of General Aristomenes has been discovered. Aristomenes was the chief figure on the Mes'senian side in their second war with Sparta (685-668 8.C.) and was elected king of the 'M>essenians in 684 B.C. He resisted the Spartans in the mountain fortress of Ira for 11 years, and, when the fortress' was captured, retired (668) to Rhodes.
