SECRETARY'S BIG BAIL.
Robert George Whitcombe, 34, secretary was charged- at London. Sessions in November with falsifying books and! accounts, the property of the Automobile Co-operative Association, Ltd with intent to defraud. „Mr R D. Muir, prosecuting, said Whitcomhe had been secretary of the association, which ceased to "exist in May of last year, becoming amalgamated' with another company. The charges were that, having received 1 money for the association, he induced another servant to make false entries in the books whereby these moneys were credited to himself instead of to the association. A Mr dough, said counsel, purchased a ra , oto J- car through the association and paid £146. He got his receipt in the ordinary way, but in the counterfoil of that receipt, by the instructions of the accused, the clerk entered that it was received from Whitcombe. Eventually exposura came in April, when the accused ceased to be secretary of the association just before its amalgamation. The books were examined and a receipt wasi found which led to other discoveries. The case was adjourned, the defendant being allowed out on bail, himself m £IOOO and ono surety of £SOO
