COURTMARTIALLED!
PAYMASTER'S DEFALCATIONS. BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH COPYRIGHT. PEE ONITED PBESS ASSOCIATION. Received January 15, 10.15 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 14. FleeUPaymaster John Moffat Lowry, of the warship Ganges, is being oourtmartialled' on a charge of embezzling £IO,OOO.
[ The search for Fleet-Paymaster John M. .Lowry, who is wanted by Scotland Yard for "misappropriating a large sum of public money," has so far proved of no avail (stated the 'Daily Mail' onNovember 28). It is stated that the exact amount of the deficiency is not yet ascertained but that the total is several thousand pounds. In his position of fleet-paymaster attached to H.M.s. Ganges at Shotley, Harwich, Mr Lowry handled large sums of money which were supplied to him by the Admiralty by drafts on a local bank. Recently irregularities were discovered in his accounts, and last week he absented himself from his post without leave. He was at once gazetted as an absentee. On Wednesday of last week he was seen near his home at Waterlooville, near Portsmouth, which is now shut up.
