DISTRICT PICNICS.

The annual publir- picnic was held at! the Waimumu School p minds yesterday ' in fine weather. There was a large at-1 tendance, many visitors boinn present: fKom Mataura and tiie surrounding dis-j tricts, including Mr G. J. Anderson, member for the district. A good programme had been arranged by the com-, mittee, and the enjoyment of everybody was well catered.for. Tea and eatables were supplied by the committee, while many visitors brought baskets-, so that; the appetites of all present were thor-j ouehly satisfied. During the afternoon Mr G. J. Anderson, M.P., on behalf of the School Committee presented each child attend-. ing the school with a prize. 'ln the evening the usual dance was held in the Public Hall, which was attended by a large number. The music was supplied by Mrs Sutherland (piano) and Mr Sutherland (violin), while Mr Geo. Williams acted as M.C. The success of the picnic was largely due to the energy of the hard-working committee, of which Mr W. Paterson was an obliging secretary.
