COUNTESS' EXPERIMENT.
It seems a decision is about to he taken concerning the situation of the 50 houseless persons, children included, who for the past six weeks have been housed by the Countess de le Rochefoucauld in one of 'her Parisian estates. It wag manifestly impossible to keep the little colony in perpetual idleness, and even the charitable Countess herself saw with dismay the havoc caused in her grounds by the 33 children she housed. I rue, however, to her promise, she has purchased land c!o«e to Paris, and the worthy but penniless fathers of the families she has assisted will set to work to construct a few weather-proof huts to shelter the poor people until they succeed in finding employment enabling them to house themselves under better conditions. With the October quarter-day for small rents approaching M. Cochon,.as president of the "Ten-) ants' League," i« being overwhelmed with applications for assistance. 1
