QUARANTINE OF SYDNEY. Received September 27, 9.0 a.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 27. Hon. J. Cook (Prime Minister) has notified Hon. \V. A. Holm an (Premier of New South Wales) that he cannot see his way to remove the quarantine embargo from Sydney, it is reported that the matter will rewire further consideration.

ESCAPEES PUNISHED. , SYDNEY, Sept. 26. The live persons who escaped from quarantine at Manly and who have been discharged from quarantine have been prosecuted for breaking quarantine. They were fined £5, with, the alternatire of a month's imprisonment.

Dr Te Rangihiroa (Northern Maori) returned from, the North of Auckland yesterday where he has been engaged since the outbreak of in assisting to combat the disease. The doctor is hopeful that they have now got the smallpox outbreak well in hand and that it will soon disappear. He gives some graphic experiences of the conditions in out-of-the-way places. In one village every whare had one or more oases of the disease. On the doctor's entrance to the House he. was given an enthusiastic reception by both parties.
