It was very imiwrtant that the Advances Office should be strong to its utmost capacity. He asked tho Minister if there was. not borrowing for ordinary purposes of the Government from the Advances Department, thereby restricting the opportunities of settlers to secure moncv?

Hon. W. J)\ Massey (Prime Minister) said that tho Government was lending money_ as rapidly as possible. Money was being spread over a period until the next loan, money was available. Money } vas . easier now. He had heard of local bodies' loans recently being raised a! per cen!b._ If the season turned out as they anticipated, money would become easier.
