Mrs O'Sliea Peterson has announced her intention of being a candidate for Denison i(Tasmania) tor the Houso of Representatives. The death occurred at Karachi, India, on August 3 of Mrs Alico Jean Turner, wife of Mr Stephen D. Turner, British Representative, Los Bela State. Baluchiston, and second daughter of the late Captain George Macpherson Grant, Dilkuslia, Grantown-on-Spey. Mrs Turner was a niece of Mrs Peter Clarke, of Mataura.

The death occurred at Mosgiel yesjterday of the wife of Mr "Win. R. i\ Eraser, manager of the Bank of Pscw Zealand in that town, after a very short illness. Mr Eraser had charge of the Wyndham branch of the baak for many years and removed to Mosgiel some six years ago. The deceased lady enjoyed a wide popularity in the southern town, and the quite unexpected news of her death is deeply regrjowi by many close friends in Wyndham and the extensive surrounding distrvt. The funeral took place to-day. Mrs Massey was entertained by 500 members of the Women's Political Reform League at Auckland yesterday and presented with a handsome diamond necklace and pendant as a tokeu of the esteem in which she is held by the ladies of the League. In doing so the vice-president pointed out that although the recipient herself was content to remain at home while her husband gathered public honors, all recognised that in Mrs Massey the Prime Minister had a wife and helpmate whose influence and good counsel at homo could bo depended upon to smooth away the many difficulties and | worries which are the lot of a public man.
