AN IMPORTANT MEETING.

SHOW POSTPONED.

Th« adjourned meeting of the Gore Horticultural Society was hold last evening. Then' were present: Messrs W. Robson, A. Newman. C. J. Burrows, B. J. Faitt, R. Rodger. W. Shave, W. Dunstan, J. B. Paterson, J. Pennyeuiek, H. Richardson. A. Simpson, T. Brown. J. B. Porks and Mesdamcs Pigcon, Bowler, Blaikie and Miss Dcterte. Mr W. Robson. president, occupied the chair anil said that the meeting was called to consider whether they should hold the show this season or not. They could not hold a show if they had no (lowers to show, but he. did not think ih«' position was as bad as it was made out to be. The season was late, no doubt, but the .show could be post-

poned. In reply to i|uestions the secretary stated that be understood the Wyndhani show was fixed lor February 28 and 29.

Mr Burrows said that if the Core show was fixed for the first week in. March he believed it would be suitable. There would be plenty of stuff to show at that time.

Mr Faitt said it would Im* a mistake to allow the show to drop. He had been speaking to several people who approved of holding, the show, butthought it should be ]>ostponed for a month. He moved, "That the showbe held as usual and the date be fixed for March 1 and 2." Mr Burrows seconded tho motion flint said that an idea had got alnmt that tho Society was going to be wound up. He could .say there was no such idea. In fact one gentleman had written a letter to the press about the matter and the samo gentleman only a few years ago moved that the Society be wound up, but failed to get a seconder. (Laughter.) The motion was then put and carried unanimously.

A lengthy discussion ensued upon tho proposed prize schedule and tho question as to whether the decorated tables should be .judged by popular vote or by a special judge. Eventually it was decided to leave the matter as it was. It was decided to recommend tho committee, to introduce a section for best decorated tables lor those who had never won a prize, and also to recommend tho inclusion of a decorated bicycle.

Tin's was all the business and tho meeting adjourned.

The committee then held a meeting and adopted the recommendations of the members' meeting. It was also decided to add classes for 21b of fresh butter in rolls, and 21b powdered butter in jars, tho latter to bo in the hands of tho secretary a fortnight before tho show. A class for fancy butter was also authorised.

Tho judges for the various classes worn then nominated and tho prize schedule passed, and ordered to be printed and distributed as soon as po«siblo.
