SOUTHLAND TOURNAMENT.

The Southland bowling tournament was continued yesterday when tlie championship doubles and last try doubles were advanced a stage. The Southland, Te Rangi. and Northend greens, were occupied all day and the finals will take place on the Southland green to-day. The game was interrupted yesterday evening by a heavy thunderstorm which passed over the town about 6 o'clock. In tlie first round of the Doubles, tho Gore, Hokonui and Mataura men all suffered defeat. Cook and Krskine beat Watson and Paterson on the Te Rangi green and in the last Try Doubles the

Hokonui men suffered defeat by Millar and Ronnie by 23 to 10. On the Northend green Watson and Thorn (Mataura) beat McKay and Sebo 14 to 12, but in the second round were beaten by McLauchlan and Wilson by 18 to 17 and in the second round by the Last Try Doubles were beaten by Watsoc and Cockburn by 12 to 9.

On the Southland green Ferguson and Brass (Hokonui) were defeated by Frobarth and Waddell (Oamaru) by 20 to 14, and in the Last Try Doubles the Gore men went down to Whittaker and Willcox by 17 to 12. J. A. Paterson and Simpson (Gore) were beaten by Smith and Strang by 17 to 14 and in the Last Try Doubles the Gore men beat Setphenson and Dykes by 14 to 8, but in the second round were beaten by Willcox and Whittaker by 14 to 13.

The final in the Championship Doubles will he played to-day between Porter and Walker and. Smith and Strang. In the Last Try Doubles the semi-finals have been reached and L. Wesney and Hunter will play Watson and Cockburn and the winners of this game will meet Millar and Rennie, Morton and Martin having a bye. The final champion singles is between Turnbull i(Taieri) and Thomson (Northend). In the Suburban Rinks, White's and Sneddon's rinks will conclude their game and tlie winner will meet Allnutt's rink for third place, the first and second prizes being won by the Auckland rinks.

The final in the Provincial rinks was partly played last evening between Hain and Hunter's l'inks will be continued to-day.

HOKONUI v. WYNDHAM

The first match of the season between the above clubs was played on the Hokonui green yesterday afternoon and resulted in a somewhat easy win for the home team. The green was very keen, which somewhat nonplussed the visitors. At the conclusion of the game Messrs Brass and McKerrow, on behalf of their respective clubs, gave brief addresses. Afternoon tea was served. Owing to rain two of the rinks played 18 heads, one 19 and the others the full 21 heads.

LAWN TENNIS. GORE v. WYNDHAM. 'Hie Gore Tennis Club paid a most enjoyable visit to Wyndham yesterday The weather being perfect until about o.JO p.m. when a shower effectually put a stop to play. The result of the Karnes was in favor of the visitors bv 90 to 79.
