THE ESCAPED PRISONER.

CAPTURED ON THURSDAY NIGHT. Ernest Arthur Hamilton, ihe prisoner who escaped from the Invercargill Prison on Tuesday afternoon, was retaken on Thursday night in the vicinity of Gorge Road about 10 o'clock. It is understood (says the 'Times') thai Hamilton was in the neighborhood of Kapuka in the morning, where he obtained a meal and a pair of boots. Mr Birch, the gentleman from whom Hamilton obtained the meal and the boois, became suspicious after his departure and immediately telephoned his suspicions to Mr Hawkins, and stated that Hamilton had taken ihe direction of Gorge Road. Mr Hawkins and a staff of i officials loft in a motor car. At Kapuka a detachment was despatched up the lino and the car hurried on to Gorge Road. As no trace of Hamilton was Ksen Mr Hawkins returned to town after having posted officers at various points, Warder Findlay at Gorge Road and Warden Challis at Kapulca. At 10 o'clock Warder Findlay's vigilance was rewarded by the appearance of the prisoner, an dtlie escapeo was at once taken into custody.
