RIFLE-SHOOTING. THE TRENTHAM MEETING. The next Dominion, rifle meeting ' will open at Trentham on February ■ 28 and will close on March 8. As fore-. shadowed last year, service matches ■ will occupy the first four days of the j meeting, after that the championship - series will be fired. The programme ] has been divided into three series, 1 1 termed A, B and C. ;' "A" series consists of teams matches ]' and "B" of - individual matches, both,* under service conditions. i' At the forthcoming meeting all ser- i' vice snooting will require to be done 1 with the rifle as issued. j 1 Competitors will not even be allowed ; to use slings and all shooting will be. done on strict military lines. It is expected that the teams series will occupy the first two days, after which the individual service series will commence. All service shooting will be much the same as at recent meetings of the association, the only difference being that if possible it will approximate nearer actual field conditions. "C" series improves all matches for the championship. The opening shoot of the meeting ] at 200 yds, 500 yds and 600 yds has been ; 1 eliminated this year and competitors < will have to get right off the mark ' for the championship this time, for ' which there will be seven matches, as ] follows: First match,. 300 yds and - 500 yds; 2nd, 500 yds and 600 yds; < 800 yds and 900 yds; 800 yds, 900 yds ' and 1000 yds. Ten shots at each dis- '■ tance. Figure targets will l>e used at 300, ' 500 and 600 yds with invisible bull and at 800, 900 and 1000 yds the bull's-eye will still be used as formerly. At 300 yds the following lines will be nsed : —Bull, 8; inner, 17; magpie, 26; and outer remainder of target. At 500 and! 600 yds: Bull, 18; inner, 30; magpie, 46 and outer remainder of target. At 800, 900 and 1000 yds the bull will be 36in, inner 54, magpie 72 and outer remainder of 6 x 10 target. The first 50 will fire off for the championship at 1000 yds (10 shots). Taken all over, the alterations are not so radical that shooting men will be afraid of the meeting. As formerly, it will be compulsory to enter for service matches. As the teams service matches occupy the first two days this will mean that individual competitors who are not shooting in teams matches will not require to be there so soon. Now that the principal alterations are announced local rifle associations and shooting men generally will have an idea what sort of targets to use. SPORTING. WINTON ACCEPTANCES.
