WEATHER AND WIRELESS.
WARNING AUSTRALIA. Received November 1, 10.40 a.m. ADELAIDE, Nov. 1. Dr. Mnwson (who intends to explore Antarctica) states that he will establish a wireless telegraphy station at the Ma/jquarie Islands. Owing to the quantity of equipment necessary he will take a second steamer as far as the islands, Speaking at Sydney recently Professor David said the South Magnetic Polo was a most important region, of the earth from a scientific point of view. When the small expedition of which Dr. Mawson and himself formed part wont there it was only able to get a I try somewhere behind the goal-posts. Now they wanted a few goals kicked between the posts, and it was of the utmost importance that observations should be taken from the opposite side to that previously reached. Dr. Mawson proposed to do that. In moteorology it was important that they should find the relation, which he believed to bo certain, between the great Antarctic blizzards and the storms that swept Australian shores. "Dr. Mawson," he proceeded, "proposes to do that by establishing a wireless station at Adele Land, 2000 miles south of Adelaide, from which he will signal that a blizzard is leaving that quarter, and also nrobably at the Macquarie Islands. The Federal Meteorologist could then look out for it a little later. It will be most important for Australian meteorology if connection can bo established, as we think will be the case, between the big disturbances of Antarctica and ] those of Australia."
