GOLF GOSSIP.

Notes by "Niblick." The first event of the Gore Golf Club's programme, a bogey competition tor a trophy presented by Mr F. Young (President) was played off on Saturday and Wednesday last, and attracted about 20 competitors. The players had cold weather to contend with, but some good golf was shown, although most of the members have hardly struck true form. Messrs Watson and Every tied for first place with one down. The following are the scores: Handicap Every t J. P . 8 1 down Watsou, A. 1? 19 1 down Scott, A. A 5 3 down Bradmore, H 8 3 down Young, F 5 4 down Marris, F 14 4 down llass, W. D 4 5 down Houston, A. F 8 6 down Butts, H. P 10 6 down Robson, W 18 6 down McQueen, J 9 7 down Lang, G. H 14 7 down Davison 18 13 down A number of competitors did not hand in their cards. It will be a great help to players when definite rules are available and I understand that the committee is arranging to have them printed. Good work is being done on the greens, and a round of the links is now most enjoyable. Members are turning out in force and a successful season seems assured. The committee has drawn up a good programme for the men, including bogey and medal competitions, driving, approaching, and putting events, and also the club championship, the present holder of which is Mr Ross, of Edendale. The club has several very enthusiastic lady members, and it is hoped that their competitions will also be in full swing by an early date. A match has been arranged with the Palclutha Club, to be played on the Gore links on the sth prox.
