CHEESE EXPORT. i There arrived at the Bluff yesterday lor shipment (says the 'Times') 3034 ' oases of cheese, which is 1038 cases less than was shipped the previous fortnight. On the quantity in port yesterday the London shipment, totalling 2268 cases, was sent forward by the Petone for transhipment to the s.s. Arawa at Lyttelton. The remaining 766 cases, which are for the West of England, will go forward by the Kent in about a week or so. The total shipments so far this season as compared [ with last are—l9lo, 61,842 cases; 1911, .' 63,240. London shipments show a decrease of 4,592 cases, but those for the West of England have increased by . 5990 cases. *. Mr J. R. Scott, secretary 6f the South Island Dairy Association, pret diets a further rising in the price of New Zealand cheese. He pointed out that prices have already touched 625, and he believed that shortly they would go as high as 645, which is a higher figure than has been made for some years. The Teason for this decided advance he attributes to a shortage in the Canadian export, and the continued satisfaction which the New Zealand article is giving to Home consumers. The amount of grain carried over the Southland railways to date exceeds that carried to the corresponding date of last year by 45,369 sacks. Last week the number of sacks carried was 51,009, which is 9827 sacks more than was carried last year during the first week of April.
