EDUCATION BOARD.

A meeting of the Southland Education Board was held at Invercargill yesterday, there being present: Messrs Sterling (chairman), T. Mac Gibbon, Archdail, Fisher, Anderson, Thomson and Gilchrist. A letter received from the Department of Education 'to the effect that it coulcl not approve of the arrangement suggested for an exchange of reserves between the Borough Council and the Board. Inspector Wylie reported that Misses Sarah Ryan and Elizabeth Winning, of the Gore school, had passed the pupilteachers' examination. The Assistant-Inspector-Ceneral wrote that the Department had agreed to the extension for one year of the junior national scholarship held by William Me Bride. Charles L. Bonnet applied to take his senior scholarship at the Invercargill High School instead of at Gore. Master Ben net had taker his junior scholarship at the former school. The application was granted Mr T. Mac Gibbon withdrew his ■notion in reference to the art master, and Mi' Fisher's motion in regard to rearranging tho work of t'le Board was referred to the Executive C.,inmil tee. fhp Exe:":tive Committer reported to tli? That the following resolutions have ben adopted—Knapdale: that the headteaclier of this school be granted leave of absence (without salary) for the month of February, as applied for; and that Miss F. H. Smith be appointed to relieve for that period. Gore: That this school not being entitled to his services, Master AY. Calder be transferred to n similar position in tho North I Invercargill school.
