ATHLETICS. MATAURA SOCIETY. . At a meeting of the committee of the Mataura Atldetic Society held this week the secretary (Mr Allan Reid) submitted a rough balance-sheet of the recent sports meeting, which showed a profit of £50 —a highly satisfactory result. RIFLE-SHOOTING. BALFOUR DEFENCE CLUB. The Balfour District Defence Ritle Club held the first match for Mr A. Stewart's (president) Cup on Wednesday. The conditions were a three-day competition, two ranges each match, seven shots with two optional sighters at each range. There was a slight rain with a wind from the left.
