♦ J SEQUEL TO A TROTTING MEETING. PER UNITED PP.ESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, Jna. 27. Five men appeared before the Police Court this morning charged that they, with certain other persons, with intent to prevent the running of the Auckland Trotting Club's races at Alexandra Park,, assembled in such a manner vvd so conducted themselves as to cause persons in the neighborhood to fear they would disturb the peace and simultaneously without reasonable occasion provoked other persons to disturb the peace tempestuously. The magistrate on the request of defedants' solicitor agreed to reduce the charge to one of committing a breach of the peace and defendants pleaded guilty. The magistrate said the offence could not be looked at in a mild manner. Accused had given considerable trouble and their action might have led to bloodshed. He fined each £5 and costs.
