rEK UNITED TRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Aug. 21. Mr T. Rallingcr yesterday handed his resignation as city councillor to the town clerk. This step has been tak;m because the tender of Thomas Balling r and Company, Limited, for a council contract was refused, in view of th-.' fact that the council has passed a resolution deciding to decline to accept any tender from any company in whi>-h ;■ councillor is a shareholder, and which does not come within the following exception: "Other than a shareholder in any incorporated company, which contains more than 20 members, and is not a private company, and of which such person is not a director, or th:' general manager, or the secretary, or in any association, or partnership, consisting of more than 20 members." The council is of opinion that this regulation should be added to that section of the Municipal Corporations Act. 1 90S. relating to the disqualification of councillors.
