The 'Star's' W'hakatane corrcspondont telegraphs at 9.45 a.m. to-day: Two concrete spans weighing 175 tons, portion of the Whakatane River bridge, collapsed without warning. Four men were working underneath and two men on top. A native named J. Herewini was drowned, a man named J. Henderson sustained a broken leg, a fractured rib and other injuries, and C. Johnson had an arm broken. The others escaped injury. Henderson swam ashore, a distance of 50 yards, despite his injuries.
