Mr Stringer, manager of this" Farmers' Freezing Company, in an interview regarding the reported "bear" in the meat market by a Homo haver, said there might lie somothing in" it. It meant that the big trade depression in England had restricted purchases while there had been an iuereaso in tho export of Argentine meat. The increased supply and decreased consumption necessarily reduced tho consumption and to this ho attributed tho decline. lie stated that buyers in London wore playing oft' one. agent against another to reduce prices. He considered that tliero should bo one agent at Homo for tho ivholo Dominion. THE SLUMP "FAKED.'' ' CHIUSTCHURCH, July 22. Ju connection with tho recent slump in frozen meat values, Mr F. G. Horrell stated at yesterday's meeting of th© Farmers' Union that ho had seen letters from Homo, one of which declared that tho big moab men were jubilant t. being ablo to bring prices down to th« present level. They woro satisfied that tliero would bo no large consignment from New Zealand in tho near i'u-.mo, aj the farmers had "come .-o iiee!.'' Mr "ft". T. Lill said that some of tho shrewder importers had scented trouble from afar. One of the largest buyers operating in the speaker's district formerlv had not bought 1000 lambs this year. Ho said he did not intend to purchase at this end, because before long ho would be ablo to buy New Zealand lambs cheaper in London. Such had proved to be tho case. THE LATEST REPORT.
