CONVENTION IN WELLINGTON. l'£E UNITED I'ltlißlJ ASSOCIAT/O.M. \\ ELLIGTON, March 1!. Tho annual convention ot tho Women's Christian Temperance Union commences it& business sittings here tomorrow. Tho delegates wore welcomed by the members of the Wellington branch to-day. Mrs Boxall, president of the Wellington branch, who presided, welcomed the visiting delegates and spoke of the good work the union was doing. She read extracts irom letters thanking tho union for its successful efforts in reclaiming young men and women.

The Hon. T. AV. Hislop (Mayor ol Wellington.), in the absence of Mrs Hislop through illness, addressed the gathering and paid nothing could bo higher or nobler than tho union's work ill tho reclamation of waifs and strays who had fallen by tho way. Tho Rev. F. W. Isitt, on behalf of tho Temperance Alliance, expressed tho certainty that tho work of the convention would be effectually carried out and the object they all had in view would he accomplished in the course of a very few years.

.Mrs Cole, of Christchiireh (president ,>f tho New Zealand Union), in returning thanks congratulated tho temperniee party upon tho success which had attended its elforts at the last local oplion poll. The delegates had almost iioped to see the bars already closed in Wellington, but they were confident that this was only a question of time. The union had tried long enough io got rid of barmaid#, and now they were endeavoring to gel rid of the bars themselves.
