THE MATACItA SEAT.

Mr G, J. Anderson addressed a crowded meeting of fully 80 Crown tenants and electors at the schoolbousc at urydouc on Saturday night. Mr Drysdalo occupied the chair. The candidate, whoso address was on the same lines as those previously delivered, was listened to with keen attention, his trenchant criticism of the policy of the Minister lor Lands, and especially of his attitude to Crown tenants being received with great approbation. At tho conclusion of tho address a number of </u options ,were satisfactorily answered, and a vote of thanks and confidence proposed by Mr Ituthglen and seconded by Mr Kielor, was carried with tho greatest enthusiasm, not a single voice being raised in dissent. At the termination of the meeting a strong working committee was formed to assist Mr Anderson's candidature.

_ Sir Anderson speaks iu the lower portion of the electorate during the next lew days, and is to be at Wyndham 011 Tuesday and Seaward Downs on Thursday evenings. He has yet to speak at this end at Knapdale and Croydon Siding, and meetings will probalily be arranged for Saturday next.

Mr McNab addressed a well-attended and orderly meeting at AVyndham on Friday evening and was accorded a vote of thanks. Ho spoke to a representative meeting at Ferndale on Saturday and was given a vote of thanks anil confidence, 011 the motion of Messrs \Y. Johnstone and M. Dickie. Later h<' spokn to a large meeting at Charlton, .Mr K. Jiowiuar occupying the chair. Several questions were answered and 011 the motion of Messrs J. Henderson and A- Wilder a vote of thanks and confidence, and also of confidence in the Ward Administration, was carried with applause. To-night Mr McNab speaks at Wainiuinu aud Mataura. Mr Stall\yorthy, M.P. for Kaipara, was recently credited by his own paper, tho 'Wairoa Bell,' with saving that "in his support of the Government ho had not given one vote which he believed in." Kaipara wondered until next issue Mr Stallworthy explained that what lie had really said was {lie very opposite^—that he had not given one vote which he had not believed in. The fight for the Auckland Central seat, lietwwn Alfred liidd (Government Whip) and Albert Glover is popularly known as the lvidd-Glove contest, and the candidates are nicknamed Alfred the Great and Albert the Good.
