Paterson, engineer to the Selwyn County Council, wrote to-day to the Council, saying: "The serious charges made against my ability as engineer, against my honor, administration, and the excessive cost of works attributed to mismanagement, and published in the daily papers from time lo time, compel me. to ask for a public inquiry, at which reporters may be present and a professional gentleman who is aware of the value of the work elltailed ill the instructions issued by the Council from time to time during the past four years. I would like this matter arranged as early as possible, before the full Council", and before the present members retire.
