KAIWERA PICNIC.

The annual picnic was held on Friday. The day was anything but a favorable one for such a function, cold sleety showers falling at intervals until well on into the afternoon, when it cleared, up but was still very cold. At one time it was thougiit the picnic would Tiavo to bo postponed on aocount of the weather, but as the day wore on a considerable number of adults and children put in an appearance, and as the rain ceased it was decided to go on with the sports, which were held in the school ground so that the people could avail themselves of the shelter of the school buildings in the event of a shower. There was an abundance of eatables provided by tie ladies of the district, which were under the supervision of Mrs John Clements, assisted by the young ladies, who were all very attentive to the wants of the people. Mr Jas. Clements always had a good supply of hot water on liaud, and under adverse circumstances, so far as the weather was conceruod, everything passed off very successfully. During the evening a dance was held in the schoolroom, which as usual was well attended. Mr Jas. Young acted as M.C., and kept everything going' in a very lively manner. " Mr D. ICean—the overgreen Dennis—danced a hornpipe, and was heartily applauded. Sir C. Allan supplied the music oil the violin.
