IN BANKRUPTCY.
HE WILLIAM SMITH, FIUiITJiRIiII. The meeting of creditors in this cs- ! late called for yesterday morning lapsed for want of a quorum, only one creditor putting in an appearance. Mr i'j. C'. Smith appeared for the bankrupt, and handed in the following written statement by the debtor "1 went to Wjiiluiia about two years ago, llad no assets then. Started rabbiting, but did not make tucker and went to the bad to the extent of about £2o' or £25, Subsequently took up a mining claim with two other men, but could not make a living al it, and sold out again. Then went to work on the (iarryowen and Mystery Mat dredges, but had to leave the latter dredge owing to my arm getting poisoned. I was unable to do any work for about three months. When my arm got better 1 accepted, through a labor agent at Dunedin, a situation to manage a farm at Clinton, but found on going to the farm that the owner would not acknowledgd the engagement. Did practically nothing until the end of August, w'hen I came to Gore and started fruit selling. Made about £2 a week from September to the end of November. The December supply of fruit obtained from -Mr Bryant was in such a bad condition that I could not dispose of it except at a considerable loss, and some of it liad to be thrown away. Mr liiyatu issued a summons for the amount due him, and I was therefore compelled to file." The Assignee said ho had sold the assets, which realised £<i 13s id, against which there was a claim of £3, for rent. The meeting adjourned sine die.
