By Balance £37 17 2 £37-17 2 A committee meeting of the Gore i Racing Club was held on Thursday evening,- Mr T. Green (president) in the chair. A draft programme for j •the Summer Sleeting on ISth and 19th January was drawn up. anil the sum of JES7O voted as stake money. Congidexaible discussion took place on the advisability of again placing hurdle races on the programme, and it was eventually decided to retain these events. The programme for the Tapanui races on January 20 and 27 has been approved by the Metropolitan Club. The Tapanui Club have made application to the Gore Club as to whether or not thev could have the use ot the Gore course for the holding of their meeting if necessary. The Gore Club has informed Tapanui that the use of the course may be had at a nierelv nominal rental. The" Jlataura Gun Club has issued programmes Jor a handicap pigeon match of £l6. to be fired off on December 21. Nominations are due on December 7, and handicaps will be declared on December 10. Full particulars mav be had on application to the secretary (Mr A. Gardiner). A suggestion has been made by air S. G. Index which is worthy of consideration bv the various Racing Clubs in Southland. This is to the effect that a meeting of delegates from the various Southland clubs be held for the purpose of combining and making the programmes of a more uniform nature than they are at the present time. As things are at present the programmes of the various clubs are of a most divergent nature. Mr lnder's proposition is that ihe whole of the clubs in the Southland district should combine and endeavor to arrange their programmes so that they arc practically of a like nature. By this means it is beyond all doubt that better fields would be the order of the day, as owners would know what horses to put in training for different races when assured of the fact that the different programmes comprised practically the same races, instead of as at present, no two programme* being of a like nature. Another strong point put forward is that there should be a more concurrent system of holding the meetings. As it is at present there is altogether too long intervals, between the holding of the difieront meetings, and as a consequence owners do. not /nre about keeping their horses in training for the time necessary at present. If the suggestion put forward was accepted, the various meetings would follow in close rotation, and owners and trainers would then ho assured of a succession of meetings. Mr lnder's proposal is worthy of careful consideration by the different clubs, as over and above the points mentioned there arc various matters that might ,with the utmost advantage be taken up by the (different clubs. j
