CONCERT AT WAIKOIKOI.

The annual concert in aid of the funds of the Waikoikoi Cricket Club was held in the hall last evening. The weather was fine, and large numbers of residents assembled to hear the very lengthy programme provided by the committee. A large drag brought most of the performers from Gore, who one and all sustained, their reputations as capable singers, elocutionists, and musicians. Theclub is fortunate in having the services of a very energetic secretary and captain (Messrs Beattie and Eeid), who must have gone to much trouble to secure the presence of such a varied list of popular performers, and it was gratifying to them to see their efforts rewarded by such a large audience. The Cricket Club have had a fairly successful season in the field this year, winning moat of the matches played. The finances also are in a healthy condition, and were very much improved by last night's receipts. Mr J. B. Mackenzie made an excellent chairman. The items set down on the programme were faithfully rendered as advertised, with the exception of two, as the gentlemen who had promised to sing were unable to be present. Mr T. Cunningham acted as accompanist, and deserves every praise for his performance, as being not only a first-class musician, but a very helpful one as well to Beveral of the younger singers who made their first appearance. Nearly every item was encored. The following ladies and gentlemen appeared on the platform :—Misses Christie, McKenzie, Graham, and Beattie; Messrs Kobson, Cooke, Christie, Lange, Eadie, and McCutcheon. After the concert the hall was prepared for dancing, which was kept up till daylight this morning. Messrs Cooper and Simmers (violins) and Cunningham (piano) supplied the musio, while Mr H. McKay acted as M.C. The ladies provided excellent refreshments for the dancers and concert performers with their usual liberality. .Taken as a whole, last evening's entertainment was one of the best ever provided by the committee for the people of the district, who came from as far as Fukerau, Tapanui, Glenkeniob, and Waikaka. During the evening Mr J. Smaill ] danced the Highland fling.
