DUNEDIN HOBSE MABKET. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. report as follow: Forty horses of one sort or another were entered for Saturday's sale, the offering being composed principally of aged " done " horses, whose days of work are nearly over. Only one draught horse that could be termed anything approaching first-class was offered, viz., a really good stamp of a 6yr-old gelding, of fair quality and in good condition, the property of Mr Bobt. Matthews, of Gore, and he was disposed of after spirited competition at £52. Judging from the fact that there were 10 or 12 of the town contractors in the yard, all of them wanting really first-olass horses (powerful shatters) from five to seven years old, it is safe to say that there would have been a record sale on Saturday bad suitable horses been entered. We oan therefore strongly recommend our clients in the country having horses of the class named to send them forward at once, as we can without difficulty place them at the extreme prices given in our quotations. We also note a good inquiry for big, upstanding, well-trained harness horses of from five_ to seven years old —horses suitable for carriages, hansoms, and waggonettes, and for the city trams. We j have customers wanting pairs, and we have numerous inquiries for upstanding light harness horses. For medium and low-class horses, of both draught and light breeds lower prioes have to be accepted than were ruling some time ago. Only one light horse that could be designated a good beast was forward at the sale, and this, a powerful spring-vun mare, was sold at £3olos. We also disposed of a 4yr-old hack, by General Tracey, at £l7 10s, and a yearling, by Brooklyn, £lO. We quote : Superior young draught geldings £SO to £55, extra good, prize horses, £56 to £6O, medium draught mares and geldings £35 to £4B, aged do £26 to £33, upstanding carriage horses £3O to £35, wellmatched carriage pairs £7O to £9O, strong spring-van horses £3O to £35, milk-cart and butchers' order-cart horses £22 to £2B, tram horses £l4 to £2l; light hacks £lO to £l6, extra good hacks £lB to £25, weedy and aged hacks and harness horses £4 to £B.
