POLITICAL BLACKGUARDISM.
TO THE EDITOR. Sm,— Every right-minded individual will heartily endorse your defence of an honest and conscientious Government officer from the most outrageous and scandalous attack perpetrated upon him by a representative of the people. Wallace will surely be proud of its member, who, apparently at the instigation of a few Lumsden rabbiters, would stoop to such questionable tactics. The officer in question (Mr H. T. Turnerl is well-known throughout Southland for his fearlessness, integrity, and abstemiousness, and any odium arising from Mr Gilfedder's ill-advised action will merely attach to the latter. If I mistake not, it will be case of " the biter bit," as the Wallace electorate will not allow Mr Gilfedder another opportunity for disgracing them. — I am, etc. Fair Play.
