Mr Philip Walsh, late of Dunedin, and who for the past few months has been licensee of the Pukerau Railway- Hotel, died suddenly at his residence about 6 a.m. on Monday. Mr Walsh, who had not been in good health for some weeks, relapsed into a serious coudition~dnring the early hours of the morning. Dr Low, of Gore, was summoned, but Mr Walsh expired before the doctor arrived, heart disease being the cause of death. The funeral will be conducted at Dunedin tomorrow. Great sympathy is experienced on behalf of the widow and young family. For the convenience of settlers in the country districts who may require the services of a doctor during the night time, Mr King, the Gore postmaster, has consented to the telephone bureaux at Balfour, Riversdale, Mandeville, Otamita, Waikaka, Waikaka Valley, and Pukerau being connected with the telephones of the local doctors after postoffice hours. The Minister of Railways has informed Mr McNab of h>s intention regarding the leases on the railway reserve in Main street, Gore. Two alternatives are to be offered to the tenants, the first being 10 years' lease, with i right of removal at end of term; and the second a 21 years' lease, with right of removal at end of 10 years, or at any time thereafter at the request of the Minister (without; compensation) ; the Government to htuve the right, by ipaying: compensation, to remove after the.' first :10 years' valuations have been made. The lessees are to be asked to discuss the position, ; and to- come to -a unanimous dee'isiori 'as 1 .to which 'fiWernative they will accept.
