INVERCARGILL MARKETS.

Messrs Whisht, Stephenson and Co. report having held their fortnightly sale of stock in the Invercargill yards on Tuesday. Only limited numbers were penned, and the sale was spirited for all but store cattle, which were rather dull of sale, owing, no doubt, to the want of feed. Fat Cattle.— Prime bullocks, £8 to £8 17s 6d ; lighter, £G 10s to £7 15s ; prime heavy cows, £6 to £7 10s ; light and inferior, £4 15s to £5 ss. Fat Sheep. — The quality on the whole was much superior in comparison to late yardings, and as the butchers -were all buying the prices proved satisfactory, prime wethers bringing 16s to 16s 7d ; lighter, 13s to 15s ; wethers and maiden ewes, 14s to 15s 5d for best; lighter, 12s upwards; prime heavy ewes up to 15s sd ; fair to medium, lis to 12s 6d. Store Cattle. — Rather dull of sale. Yearlings, 30s to 35s for best ; calves, 15s to 20a ; two and three year old steers, £3 to £3 15s ; cows, £4 10 i to £6 for young milkiug sorts. Store Sheep. — Not many yarded. Best hoggets brought 10s to lis 3d ; four and sixtooth ewes with lambs, 12s to 13s 7d ; aged do, 93 to lis ; forward-conditioned wetheis and maiden ewes, 12s to 12s 9d. We sold on account Messrs A. McGillivray, D. Strachan, H. Howells, J. and J. Young, Wm. Fryer, John Cameron, Robert Russell, M. McFarlane, John Flannagan, James Blue, and Jas. Walker. Privately we have placed 50 pigs on account Mr John Shaw, Otautau, at a satisfactory price.
