+1 TAPANUI. The weather has been most miserable for the last week or two, nothing but rain day after day, only varied occasionally with showers of snow and hail. The Blue Mountains have been covered with a heavy coat of snow ever since Sunday morning. On Friday, October 23rd, Mr J. D. Sievwright delivered a lecture on " The Fallacies of Prohibition" to a large audience, the Athoufeam hall baing filled to its utmost capacity. He spoke for nearly two hours, and, at the close of his address he answered several questions. On the following Wednesday, the Rev. L. M. Isitt addressed an equally large audience on behalf of the Prohibitionists. Both sides are working hard for their own cause, but what the result will be in the end, it is impossible to tell at present. We had a visit from Messrs Finlay and Probasco's circus on the 25th inst., when every one who attended were highly pleased with the performance, Mr Probasco receiving great credit for the way he has his horses trained. Mr Thos. Ayson has opened the electioneering campaign here, by addressing a number of the electors in the Athenaeum Hall on Friday evening, the 30th inst. He went over the same ground as he did at other places where he has spoken. After a mmber of questions were asked and answered a vote, of thanks and confidence was carried. Our energetic and popular baker Mr Quayle has just finished rebuilding his [ oven, which is now one of the most complete in the country being fined up with ! a pyromoter for testing the heat of the ' oven, also a hot water boiler, and other conveniences. i
