Social at Kelso.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) . , It is to our genial friends, Mr and Mrs :^ Paton, that the credit of the first social of the season ban to ba given. A few evenings ago, ? n the occas.on of the birthday of their dauehter, Annie, fully 50 ladies and gentle' men were entertained at Mr Paton's re»idance. &» Miss Patott, a. young lady well - known in social and musical circles in your city, presided at the piano, your readers will ' know a treat in itself of »n exceptional Ba j are , was P rov ' ded tor<v "> while Mrs Paton ' and Misses Annie and Mary literally "■ showered good things in the way of eatables and drinkables upon us. I was nearly forgetting Mr. Paton, who, with that nanny knack to please that has made him one of tha most popular stationmaaters in the service, did ; all he could to make things go as merry an a • marriage bell. Several of the guests, at ' intervals of " ohasiog the glowing hours with flyinefeet." contributed musioal items. At the conclusion a well-known business man in Kelso, with unaffected fervour, thanked Mr and Mrs Paton for the very, pleasant eveniDß they had provided.
