The Under-Secretary of the Bailway Department replied to the Board's letter of 31st May last calling the Governmenl's attention to the destruction of building sites at Mataura Polls by the Railway Department, and stated that the land was vested in the Railway Department for the purpose of a ballast pit and quarry, and he also mentionrd that the Minister thought that quarrying would not destroy the land as sites for mills and factories. — Received. Messrs Cameron and others wrote asking that tbe work at End street bn deferred until the -weather got better, as at preseut it conld not be done to advantage. — Work held over for the present. The Commissicner of Taxes intimated that the-subsidy under the Local Bodies Finance: and Powers Act for the year 1891 95 bad been paid into the B.nlt. Mr Bailey stated/that his son was now of agr, and asked permission to transfer sections 8 and 9, block Xl.— On tho motion of Mes«rs Perkins and Brown the sanction was granted ai requested. Mrs Carroll wrote regarding the culvert recently made in Argyle street. — Messrs Balneaves and Perkins moved that the letter be received, and that a committee, consisting of the Chairman ani Mr Perkins, be appointed to deal with it to the extent of 10*.— Carried. Mrs McJErlane's letter, held over from last meeting night, and • petition signed by 16 ratepayers praying the Board to do some work in order to relea'e them from the periodical flooding which takes place, •were discussed, and eventually" Messrs Perkins and Brown moved that as tlie Town Board is desirous ti make extensive improvements in Bristol street, end as this necessitates a larger culvertthrough the County road, the County Council be respectfully asked to undertake tbe enlargement of the culvert, and that the Chairman and Messrs Balneaves, Cameron and Perkins interview Mr Green in regard to the matter. — Oarried. Mr Maeandrew's letter, held over from last meetin. , asking tbe Board to accept snrr nder of his lease, was considered, nnd it was unßtiim' u'ly resolved that the Board does not see its way to grant a surrender: Messrs Perkins and Brown moved that the member for the _t*tr iet be respectfully a?„orl to n;o his influence in conserving the stains of tbe Borough Councils and Town Boards when tbe proposed Local Government Bill is before Parliament. — Carried. The following accounts were passed for payment, viz. : — Town Clerk, L 2 18s 41 ; lighting, L 2 16 1 ; rent of hall and office, L 6. The Board then adjonrned.
