Induction of the Rev. A. H. Wallace.

Special services, conducted by the Rsv. W. M. Fell, of Dunedin, in connoction with tho induction of the Eev. A. H. Wallace, were held at the Gore Congregational Church on Sunday last. In the morning, the Rev. Mr Pell preached an eloquent sermon from Daniel xii and 3. He dealt at length with the historical character of Daniel as connected with the progress of the Chriatrian Church. He mentioned that he had specially come that day to show them, in the most practical manner possible, the connection existing between the church and the people. He then introduced the Eev. Wallace to the congregation, and. in a few remarks, gave a brief outline of that gentleman's career in" D Joedin. Not only was he beloved by his own congregation, but he commanded the respect of large numbers outside his own denomination. In conclusion, he urged upon them the great importance of giving their pastor their moral support. Unless a minister was backed up by his flock his work would be of no effect. In the afternoon.thoßev.MrFell addressed the Sabbath School, and by anecdotes, etc., showed what had been done for them by Chriiit and other godly men who had lived in the world. There was a fairly large congregation present at the evening service, Bhortly before the commencement of which the choir, under Mr McNee, rendered a couple of anthems in good style. The Rev. Mr Fell gave a scholarly discourse upon the formation of character, taking his text from;Revelations vii., and 14. He mentioned that very few people could remember for any length of time the substance of sermons they may have heard. He contended th»t sermons were Dot meant to be remembered. Their work was accomplished at the time, and after this was done their usefulness came to an end. The choir gave an anthem while the collection was being taken up, and one at the close of the service. Miss Beattie presided at the organ during the day.
