Clutha County Council.
The above council met at Balslutba on Friday. • Mr D. M'Farlane wrote again bringing under notice of The council bis claim for extras in connection with the Pomahaka bridge, statiug that he would deduct Ll3 18s 2d from his claim of L3B 18s 2d, which would leave L2s.—The Chairman said the engineer would only recommend a payment of Ll2 6s. —Councillor Simmers was in favor of a compromise being made. A very good j)bhad been made, and he would move that ftlr M'Fa'lane be offered L2o.—Captain Mackenzie agreea with Councillor Simmers, and seconded his motion, but thought that they should pay the L 25. —Councillor M'Lachlan said those sums would he debited to the ridinvr, and so long »s the members for the ridiug interested were agreeable he would not object. There was a principle involved, however, and he thought the coun-il should support tbe engineer. Hp thought L2O would be enough in any case.—The motion foe L2O was carried. Mr A. C. Beg»r wrote, saying ibat though a tender had been accepted for road work on road leading from Popjtunoa Gorge to Waipahi river, nothing had yet been done to the road, — Matter now under way, Mr John vi«Noe, Kelso, wrote, at therequest of a number of settlers there, asking the council tr make a straight road—a continuation of the Bwamp road—hear Kelso, and asking the members of the riding to call a meeting of the ratepayers there to consider the matter. —Members for the riding to attend to the matter. It was resolved that the council overdraw to the extent of L 2500. The following motions were carried : That Mr P. Anderson's deposit, Ll 6s, on contract at Blacks be returned.
