The member, for Awarauj Mr tf, Ev JojCce, sometime ago forwarded to the Minister of Public Works a. number of petitions masking for a reduction in the railway charges Jfpr conveying milk to dairy faet'ories. The following reply has been received :— " Sib,— with reference to your letter of 23rd ulto. coveringLpetitions nrging a reduction iri%ne milk rate to factories, this request comes somewhat; as -a surprise,? aY t&o{ ¥»W $an excessively low one, and the empties are returned free. It will no doubt be within your remembrance that it is no. tinmen more than a year since the Government maie this low rate, after careful enquiries throughout the colony, while, in addition totaling i a low rate for the milk, the export; ratS lor cheese from the factories was a/sp , much reduced, with the object of ad/kneing'the dairy industry.
