MERINO DOWNS ESTATE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— As I was travelling through the Merino Downs Estate last week with the view of buying a piece of it, I was anxious to see.how'the crops were looking in seme of the blocks which were recently sold. On going a'ong the east boundary on the . road line which runs north and south through block 11, Ohatton, and block I, Waikaka, I was highly pleased with the. appearance of the crqps, which are chiefly oats. They look as well as any I have seen in Otago. Should the harvest weather be favorable the owners should be rewarded for their labor. On drawing near the north point of block 11, Chatton, I came to a fence which was across the road. After getting over the fence I wandered amongst oats. I concluded that I had got off the road line, On referring to the map I saw I was right, and aft«r walking a short distance I met a rabbiter, who told me that the owners of ihe land had a privilege, aa they were both members of the Knapdale, Road Board, hence the reason for ploughing up the road and sowing oats on it. I presume some of the local bodies will have a road inspector whose duty it is to prosecute such parties for their selfisnness,— Your*, etc., Selector. Glenkenich, Feb. 3, 1887.
