A good start was effected, Claptrap, Dirk Hatteraick, and Le Grand being the first to get away. Crossing the tan Dirk Hatteraick was in front, Martiui-Hcnry, Archie and Claptrap following, and Despot, Cnnnamuila, First Demon, Commotion, Dukedom and Aide-de-Camp holding central positions. Passing the grand stand Claptrap again took' the lead with Archie and Martini-Henry clese behind ; Lesbia, Stockwell, Despot, Aide-de-Camp and Nicholas following, and Dirk Hatteraick last. Rounding the turn Claptrap was still in front and Archie next. Le Grand then shot to the front and led, along the river side ; then came Archie, Claptrap, and Martini- Henry, with Aide-dc-Camp, Lesbia, and Dukedom well up and Dirk Hatteraick still last. At tbe bridge Archie aud Claptrap again went forward, closely followed by Linda, Martini-Henry, Despot and Dukedom, with Santa Claus and Stockwell in the centre of the field. At the back of the course Archie and Santa Claus, who had taken second place, were leading, witn Dukedom third, and Aide-de-Camp and Kohinoor last. . Entering' the straight,' Mar-tini-Henry took the lead, and Claptrap-fol-lowed next : the rest of the field in straggling order. First Water coming through them with » ranb, and taking «& ,iH?>_mv«<i position, Martini-Henry, going well, drew away from the rest,' and increasing his load romped home an easy winner.
