At tho inquest on tho body of John Duggan, who was discovered murdered at Elmore, near Bendigo, on July .‘3rd, a verdict of wilful murder was rcturnod against William Harrison. Tho steamer Xoonoowarra has sailed for Guam, but it is supposed slio is destined fora New Zealand port to load coal.

Adelaide, Aug 22 The Premier has received a communication from the Agent-Gene-ral to tho effect that the Imperial Government is not in favor of the provisions in the Chinese Ifcstriration Bill imposing a poll tax, nor are they in favor of 500 ton limitation. Tho Home authorities consider the poll tax should b» abolished altogether, and the limitation lowered.

Sydney, Aug 23. The miners have declined to withdraw from the position they have taken up, but have expressed their willingness to meet the masters in order to openly discuss the two sides of the question without the interference of a third party. If tho masters agree to this to-day tho men will consent to suspend further action for two weeks, so as to see if any real issue can arise out of the mutual negotiations. The shearing difficulty at Brookong station has come to an end, the Shearers’ Union having given way.
