In toasting tho Mother country, Mr Dalton McCarthy said Canada abeve a l ' wishes an Imperial Federation. Lord Knutsford replied that while Federation was sure, the proposition must come from the colonies ; then England would give it close attention, The Canadian Premier Mowatt and Sir Charles Tapper also spoke, endorsing the federation policy.
