THE Marlborough Times. PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. SATURDAY, JULY 21, 1888.

Crowded Our. Our Parliamentary roport and oGier matter is crowded out of th : s issue.

Vale. —The painfully labored effort of our contemporary in bis desire to wriggle out of his most inconsistent perch regarding the publication of names of persons brought before court, requires no farther comment from us. The glaring inconsistency of the lofty standard set up contrasted with the actual practice of the journal in question is a sufficient condemnation of the sincerity of its utterance on the question under notice. The most hopeful sign of its future reformation is the fact that in yesterday’s article no roply whatever is made to the evidence of its inconsistency in utterly ignoring an outrage upon tbo management of a local public body. The assumption therefore is that the enlightened management thought it safer to “ go ” for three small boys and an individual who, for all the evidence that was adduced, had no right to be subjected to tbo ignominy that was attempted to be thrust upon him. Our remarks were penned in defence of an ignorant and unwarrantable attack upon the principles that guide the conduct of this journal. The public may now judge between the stand wo have taken and the inconsistent action of our contemporary. J. M'Kenz-j and Co’ b Estate— An important meeting of creditors in this estate is convened for this afternoon at 3 o’clock in the Good Templars’ Hall. Mission Work. The Rev. Charles Murray, late of the New Hebrides, will preach in St. .Andrew’s Presbyterian Church to-morrow. At the even tig service Mr Murray w'H describe tlio present state of mission work in the New Hebrides. On Wednesday eyening Mr Murray will give an address on “Tbo Natives of New Hobildea ; their pract ; ces and beliefs.”

Literary and Debatino Soc.Jir.— The usual weekly meeting of this Socioty was held last evening, Mr Earll (Vico President) in tho chair. Impromptu epeaUng took place on tho following subjects, which were drawn for :— 11 Is it a reasonable inference that the planets of our solar system are peopled by beings of higher intelligence than wo arc ?” Mr Sinclair had the misfortune to draw this ponderous subject, but he showed a fairly ultimate acquaintance with it, and an animated debate took place theroon. The other subjects were : “ Are Friendly Societies beneficial to a community?” “ Should libraries, museums and picture galleries bo open on Sundays?” ‘‘Has the introduction of machinery been beneficial to mankind ?” It was decided that tbo latter form a subject for debate at a future date.

Maine News. —Dr Soule’s American Hop Bitters, which are advertised in our columns, are a sure cure for ague, biliousness and kidney complaints. Those who use them say they cannot be too highly recommended. Those afflicted should give them a fair trial, and will become thereby enthusiastic in the praise of the'" curative qualities. “Portland Argus.”

Holloway’s Pills.— The sudden chaugas 1 frequeut fogs, ancl pervading dampness sadly impede the vital functions ancl conduce to ill health. The remedy for thsse diseases lies in some purifying medicine, like these Pills, which is competent to grapple with the mischief at its source, and stamp it out without fretting the nerves or weakening the system. Holloway’s Pills extract from the blood all noxious matters, regulate the action of every disordered organ, stimulate the livar and kidneys, and releav the bowels, in curing chest complaints these Pills are remarkably effective, especially when aided by friction of the Qintmeut on its walls. This double treatment will insure a certain, steady and beneficent progress and sound health will soon be re-estab-lished.
