Soon after the hook was issued, and heforo many copies had been sold, a fire occurred in the pub lishing house where tho volumes wero stored, and they were destroyed. As the publisher carried a full insurance on the stock Mr Lowell realised the full cash value of his venturo, and had the satisfaction of saying that the entire edition was exhausted. A correspondent of the Sheep Breeder relates a romarkable instance of early maturity, or rather rapidity of development in a ram lamb, out of a Cotswold ewe, and sir'd by a registered fhropshiro ram. The lamb, dropped March 2, l.'» >, measured hen twenty-four hours olu nvo leot from top of head to root of tail, stood eighteen inches high, and weighed fifteen pounds ; when three months and eleven nays old, it weighed 120 pounds ; when six months and suven days old, it weighed 150 pounds. When last weighed, some timo in October, it tipped 210 pounds. It has received no more care than tho rest of the flock since being turned on grass in tho spring.
