VAIRAU ROAD BOARD

June 7tit, 1888. The usual monthly meeting was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present : Messrs Ward (chaiiman), Avery, Carter, Goulter and Watts. THE TAYLOR RIVER. The Secretary of the Lower Wairau Liver Board wrote as follows :—lt being desirable that control over the bed and hanks of the Taylor Liver should, be obtained by some corporation having an interest in the conservation of the said banks, I have the honor to request that the Wairau Load Loavd will consent to allow the granting of a license by tho Crown , to this Board, for the supervision [ of the removal of the gravel in the bed of the Taylor Liver, within your district, so as to prevent the destruction of the banks, and to conserve the adjacent lands.” It was resolved, “ That in the opinion of the Wairau Load Board the Borough Council is tho proper body to control the taking of gravel from the Taylor Liver, the more especially as the section in question is not in the Liver Board’s District, and that tho Borough Council is more intested than any other body in a. matter particularly affecting the Borough of Blenheim.” OPAWA RIVER FORDS. In regard to an account sent by tho Omaka Road Board for VO 15s maintenance of the river fords and signals at the Opav/a, Eenwick, it was decided that the secretary of the Omaka Load Board he requested to amend the account, part of same having been paid.

It was decided that A. M'Coll’s contract be quashed and the de-

posit of £4 forfeited, he not having commenced tho work let to him two months ago. SLAUGHTER-HOUSE LICENSE. A license to slaughter cattle and sheep at Langley Dale was granted to Mr W. Adams. TENDERS. The* following tenders were received for metaling Wairau Valley Load: D. M‘Vean, £1 2s Cd per chain; W. Ronowitcz, 18s 6d per chain. The tender of Mr Ronowitcz was accepted. lANGLEY DALE ROAD. Mr W. Adams, of Langley Dale wrote re tho road through Langley Dale, as surveyed by the late Mr Dobson, Ho stated that he was prepared, in accordance with the former resolutions of tho Board, to give a conveyance of the said road to the Board, and that he would pay the expense of the conveyance himself.

It was resolved, “ That for the purpose of coming to a final settlement in connection with the proposed road, and in lieu of all previous undertakings, on Mr Adams

giving a conveyance of the said line of road where it runs through his freehold property, including a hue of road through section 26, and of his undertaking to make a dray road 12 feet wide along the t 1 1-side between Onamalutu and the Langley Dale Flats, to tho satisfaction of the Board’s inspector, the Board is willing to contribute the sum of £IOO on the completion of such work, but that if Mr Adams prefers it the Board is willing to carry out the original resolution of March, 1886, and supply a tracing for tho conveyance.” A ROAD ROLLER. It was moved by Mr Carter, and carried. “ That *tko secretary be instructed to communicate with other local bodies having charge of roads w Ith the view of obtaining united action in procuring a heavy road roller, to be either propelled by steam, or drawn by horse power. THE COUNTY COUNCIL.

Mr J. T. Robinson, County Clerk ; wrote informing the Board that at the annual meeting of the County Council a resolution was passed apportioning the County funds—the Wairau Road Board to receive 20 per cent provided it paid the expenses of the Council out of its share and expended the balance on the goldfields, It was decided that the Clerk be written to for further particulars, and also a copy of the resolution referred to in his letter. IMPROVEMENTS. The Inspector was authorised to expend a sum not exceeding LlO on metalling the Middle Road through the swamp at Renwicktown, from the present metalling. ACCOUNTS. Accounts as follows were passed for payment Charles Smart, L 5 ; W. Tapp (deposit account), L 4; W. Ronowicz (deposit account), L 5; Dog Registrar, L2 3s 6d; Impounder, L2 10s; Inspector, L 6 J3s 4d; W. Tapp, L 24 183 4d ; W. Casey, L2; W. Ronowicz, 1 L56 11s 9d; C. J. W, Griffiths, Ll 7 14s; printing advertising' Ll 4s.
